Guy Tang interview

My Sticky Rice does an exclusive interview with professional model and hairstylist Guy Tang.

What is the most frustrating thing about modelling?
I think its eating. I love to eat, but I have to watch everything I eat in order to look the way I do on camera. I workout a lot and diet like crazy before a shoot. I take alot of pride in my work, and its very serious to me because its ART and an image that projects my hard work and my passion.

What’s the most fun?
I love my fans. They always keep me motivated and it helps me get more creative because I know they enjoy it. Its hard work. A lot of times I am in the cold freezing for hours doing a shoot and haven’t had real food to eat. Currently, I love doing video shoots a lot more and working with my manager and best friend, Don Pollard. He allowed me to contribute a lot of my own creative juices to the image I project. I like owning my image and my vision.

Tell us about the most difficult shoot you had to do
I think Nudes have been the most difficult. Flexing my abs, having a sexy face and keeping an erection is not easy when there are 3 or more people from the crew like assistants and make-up artists around watching at all times makes it difficult to stay focused.

Have you ever been nervous in front of the camera? What goes through your mind during a shoot?
Yes, collaborating with other models is hard. Also, I want my image to symbolize “DestinAsian”, which is my concept about promoting the Asian male empowerment. I dont want my images to be presented the wrong way.

How did you get involved with hair styling?
I love working at hairshows and doing my own photography to showcase my vision as a hair designer.

Is there a new trend in hair we should be aware of this year?
Asymetric haircuts are very popular and keeping the color hidden underneath is a lot more tasteful then having a big patch of color on the head. Fans can see my photography and hair designs on my MySpace.

And, who do want to work with?
I have to say I love my manager Don Pollard shooting my videos and images. We collaborate well together and he knows what I like.
