    What do Asiaphiles look for in a date?
    Call it Yellow Fever, Asiaphilia, or simply an Asian fetish—what is it that drives some people to compulsively admire and date Asians, sometimes exclusively? What characteristics make Asians more attractive to these individuals?

    For some people, the attraction is purely physical. It’s in the almond-shaped eyes, the tone and hairlessness of the skin, perhaps in the generally smaller body frame. This isn’t far removed from any other physical preference like height, weight, hair length or eye colour. But if we’re being totally honest, an Asian fetish is usually more than just skin deep. Rice kings and queens aren’t just looking for someone who looks Asian, but someone who acts Asian.

    You may wonder exactly how someone can ‘act Asian’; I asked myself the same question. After some research, I’ve managed to compile a list of cultural characteristics that many Asiaphiles look for in a date:

    Edison Chen

    Set to appear in the romantic comedy Almost Perfect for 2010, Edison Chen has also appeared in the Oscar award winning comic book movie, The Dark Knight and the horror flick The Grudge 2. Born in Vancouver, Edison began his career when he was spotted at a club in Hong Kong. He then landed roles in several Hong Kong and Japanese films, as well as a record deal as a hip hop artist and began designing clothes under his label CLOT Inc.

    Closing Givenchy’s men’s line in their Fall/Winter 2010 presentation in January, Paolo Roldan from Boss Models is one of the faces for Givenchy’s ad campaign for this fall. In Toronto he doubles as a fashion buyer for Nomad.
